INOASIS: Award-Wining Neuro-AI multisensory design
INOASIS DESIGN SHANGHAI 2025 INSTALLATION
“Emotion Oasis of Tomorrow” is a neuro-AI interactive multisensory installation, exhibited at Design Shanghai from 4th to 7th June 2025. This exhibition uses the medium of installation art to showcase the prototype of INOASIS’s multisensory design research system and its practical application in enhancing mental wellness across various fields—such as interior design, sensory cognition and art therapy. Alex Long Yuan and Star Sun explore how technology, art and design converge to offer new solutions for mental wellbeing in the challenge of living with digital and AI interventions.
The project was awarded second prize in the Google Gemma 3 “AI for Good” Hackathon, recognising its evidence-based design solutions that address mental wellness through spatial experience.
INOASIS NEURO-AI MULTISENSORY DESIGN INSTALLATION
Behind this achievement is the outcome of a successful cross-disciplinary collaboration bridging fine art, design, neuroscience and perfumery. The multisensory design research is integrated into a neuro-AI system, offering an interactive, human-centred design process for both commercial projects and domestic applications.
In this Design Shanghai exhibition, brainwave trend algorithm was used alongside an integrated AI to interpret emotional states and communicate with both the installation and the audience.
Upon entering the space, visitors begin with a scent selection ritual. Each curated scent corresponds to a specific emotional state and is designed to set an initial mood. Participants then wear an EEG brainwave headset, which monitors their neural rhythms. By reading patterns in brain activity over time — such as waves linked to calmness, focus, or stress — the system could understand how a person was feeling. It then translated those emotional signals into sensory responses. The installation reacted in real time with changes in light, colour, sound together with scent, creating an immersive experience that supported emotional awareness and comfort.

Once a steady signal is detected, an AI system initiates a meditative dialogue and transforms the environment—adapting light, colour, and sound in real time to create a personalised emotional landscape.
Open collaboration:
“Emotional Oasis of Tomorrow” is more than an immersive installation—it is a prototype for future living, hospitality experiences, and sensory product innovation. INOASIS invites interior brands, artists and research institutions to explore the applications of its neuro-AI design system, from bespoke spatial installations to brand experience and mental wellness practice.
